Collaborative ecosystem association

The Collaborative ecosystem association (Cea) is an interdisciplinary research and networking initiative that connects people from a wide range of sectors to promote protection and restoration of marine ecosystems.

Whether artists, scientists, students, or storytellers - everyone can do their part

Research

In partnership with the MexCal research group, our projects focus on the recovery of kelp forests across the Southern California Bight.

We aim to understand

I) which restoration strategies can improve the performance and resilience of kelp forests and their ecosystem services in a changing climate,

II) under what conditions kelp forest ecosystems recover after extreme warming events such as Marine Heat Waves, and

III) how ecological solutions can be integrated into a community-driven framework that benefits local stakeholders and their interests.

Art meets Science

Uniting Creativity for Conservation: Art Meets Science functions as an exchange platform and crowdfunding initiative. Naturalists and artists can connect with each other and, as a network unit, create funds for emerging restoration projects and associated research.
