Flora and Fauna

Flora and Fauna provide important ecosystem services that benefit both humans and the environment. Protecting their biodiversity is important for ecosystem resilience as different species play unique roles in maintaining ecosystem balance and function.
Some species are of particular concern because they create complex habitats that support species-rich and productive communities. Kelp forests, for example, serve as nurseries and homes for numerous marine animals, which in turn support fisheries and contribute to coastal economies. In addition, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate climate change.

Livelihood

Coastal habitats support livelihoods by providing a range of resources, financal opportunities, and services that contribute to local economies, employment, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability.

Balancing the use and protection of these habitats is critical to ensuring their long-term benefits to people and the ecosystems themselves. Adaptive management of coastal habitats at the regional level and the involvement of local stakeholders are crucial for the economic empowerment of the local population.

Outreach

Outreach, i.e., raising public awareness and understanding of science, serves as a bridge between environmental initiatives and the public, facilitating understanding, collaboration, and active participation.

It plays a pivotal role in building public support, changing behaviours, fostering collaboration, and promoting a sense of responsibility for the environment. It ensures that conservation efforts are not limited to experts but involve a wide range of stakeholders working together to safeguard and restore natural habitats.

Water

Water means life.

Innovative and responsible strategies for water management from source to sea are needed to ensure the success and sustainability of marine conservation and ecosystem restoration efforts as well as to address the global challenge of water scarcity and biodiversity loss.

Water has no borders, so let's preserve it together.
